Initial Driver Hours & Digital Tachograph (All licences)
An essential course for keeping up-to date with current regulations and driving within the law. This course covers all that drivers need to know about drivers’ hours’ legislation and the Working Time Directive as well as completing analogue tachographs accurately and correct use of digital tachographs using a simulator.
Load Securing Modular 3.5 Hours (LGV licence only)
A safe, secure load is a legal requirement and every driver’s responsibility. The module will cover securing many types of loads from roping and sheeting to winches, bars and gates and will include practical demonstrations and practice sessions.
Drink Drugs Awareness/Speed Awareness (All Licences)
This course looks at the effects, drink and drugs, can have on a driver’s ability to drive. What a standard unit of alcohol is and how it affects different people. It will also cover illicit drugs and signs to look for. The morning session covers speed and spatial awareness, hazard perception, seatbelts and the implication of using a mobile phone whilst driving. This course contains footage that may upset some drivers.
First Aid (All licences)
Most lorries and all buses carry a first aid kit, but how many drivers know what is in it, and how to use it. Topics covered will include assessing injuries and prioritising treatment. Candidates will look at disorders of respiration and circulation; practice CPR on a mannequin and putting patients in the recovery position. For an additional cost of £40, candidates can gain a recognised ‘Emergency First Aid at Work’ qualification.
Manual Handling Modular 3.5 Hours (All licences)
Too many working days are lost due to bad backs and injuries at work. This module includes the anatomy of the spine, and how incorrect lifting affects the back. Drivers will be required to observe a practical demonstration on safe lifting.
Health and Safety Modular 3.5 Hours (All licences)
Candidates will also look at current legislation, completing risk assessments and how to deal with a Health & Safety emergency in the depot and on the road.
Safe Vulnerable Road Users (All licences)(Delivered under National Logistics Academy Consortium)
This course identifies road users who are vulnerable and why. It will highlight drivers responsibilities towards other road users and promote techniques and technology to improve road safety.
Delivering Outstanding Customer Services:(Delivered under National Logistics Academy Consortium)
This course follows a day in the life of a driver. It is designed to show how outstanding customer service can be delivered through the following daily tasks; interaction within the depot, dealing with different types of customers when collecting and receiving goods how to interact with colleagues and present an overall good impression of the company.
